Rules

Gameplay Format

  • Regulation: Two, 17-minute stop time periods with a 2-minute intermission. There is no mercy rule, but the game becomes run clock once a 7-goal lead has been reached.
  • Timeouts: 1-minute timeout per game.
  • Penalties: Ninety seconds.
  • Overtime: 5-minute period with 3v3 skaters. Run time for the first four minutes and stop clock for the last.
  • Shootouts: If games are not determined in overtime, they will continue to a best of 3-man shootout format with the visiting team shooting first. If still tied after three shootout rounds, it will go to a sudden death format. This continues until all players on the shortest bench have participated. Thereafter, teams are permitted to use players who have already shot. For the purpose of tracking goals for and against, the shootout winner earns an extra goal compared to the final score at the end of regulation. For example, if regulation ended in a 3-3 tie, then the final score after concluding the shootout would be 4-3.
  • Playoff Overtime: Sudden death overtime with 4v4 skaters.

Points Breakdown

  • 3 points for winning in regulation.
  • 2 points for winning in overtime.
  • 1 point when losing in overtime.

Player Conduct

  • In-game rulings default to the RHA rulebook.
  • Players must wear their full team uniform to be permitted to play.

Team Management

  • Drafted Teams: 10 rostered skaters | 2 alternative skaters | 1 starter goalie | 1 backup goalie
  • Outside of using the designated alternative skaters at the captain's discretion, substitute players are not permitted.
  • If neither the starting goalie nor the backup goalie are available for a team, league management will first prioritize an outside goaltender unaffiliated with the league before calling to using another team's backup goalie, and as a last resort, using another team's starting goalie.
  • Teams must facilitate any desired rink practice time with league management. Associated fees will go toward rink rental and the league prize pool.

Season Awards

  • McClurg Champions Cup for the team that wins the Elite Draft League.
  • League MVP as voted by the front office staff at the end of playoffs.
  • Highest Scorer awarded to the player with the most points, a combination of goals and assists.
  • Sportsmanship Award granted to the player who best embodies the spirit of the game as voted by the players of the league.
