Vipers Capture McClurg Champions Cup in Thrilling 4-3 Win Over Ospreys
The Temecula Vineyard Vipers clinched the McClurg Champions Cup with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the Mission Bay Ospreys in the Elite Draft League season finale. Wes Langeloh delivered a masterclass performance, scoring all four Vipers goals, including a first-period hat trick.
The Ospreys rallied with goals from Mike Rounds, Noe Santos, and Joe Kubani but couldn’t close the gap. Despite being outshot 34-26, Vipers' goalie Zach Cummings made 31 saves, securing the championship win for his team.
The Vipers’ relentless attack and defensive resilience were key in their triumph over a determined Ospreys squad.
The evening's award ceremony began with an appearance from Elite Draft League partner, "The Answer's Yes" CEO Kevin Sumstine presenting the giant check to captain Matthew Hamilton representing their $1,000 contribution to the prize pool.
Playoff MVP honors were bestowed upon Wes Langeloh as the undisputed, unanimous choice among Elite Draft League staff for not only his prevalence on the scoresheet, but also his complete game that he played down the stretch. For Wes's herculean efforts in the McClurg Champions Cup Playoffs, he was the recipient of the Playoff MVP belt presented to him by Executive Director of Gameplay & Engagement, Gabe John.
McClurg Champions Cup presentation honors were executed by none other than the Elite Draft League's own, Callan McClurg passing the trophy to Vineyard Vipers captain, Matthew Hamilton. After battling through a significant eye injury to start the season, the Vipers were a composed, dominant team when Hamilton was on the rink. His leadership and stabilizing presence can’t be emphasized enough in the Vineyard Vipers tear through the second half of the season all the way to winning the inaugural season.
Special thanks to the Elite Draft League sponsors for making this season a success! Planning for the 2025 season has already begun and we look forward to announcing new, exciting league details soon.
